“Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.” – 1 Cor 15.34
First Corinthians fifteen is one of the most exciting chapters in the entire Bible. In it Paul explains the gospel in detail and the ramifications of Christ’s Resurrection. When we come to our text verse Paul indicts the Corinthian church for their apathy concerning the lost around them, notice again what he says; “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.” God led Paul under inspiration to pen these strong words of rebuke to a church that needed correction. Many churches today suffer from the same apathy induced coma that the Corinthian church had. It is a shame for any church of the living God to be surrounded by people, ignorant of that God. We cannot save everyone but we can tell everyone about our resurrected Savior. Today as God’s people we need to stop looking within our doors and start looking without at the people all around who “have not the knowledge of God.” May the Lord help us to awake out of slumber and start taking the gospel to the world.
