“And so it was, that, while they were there (Bethlehem), the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” – Luke 2.6-7

Jesus Christ’s entrance into this world was completely devoid of the pomp and circumstance normally associated with royal births. His birth town was Bethlehem, a place too small to accommodate the people coming in to be counted and taxed. His birthplace was a stable. His cradle was a feeding trough for the stable animals. The Bible gives a reason for this humble birth in our text verse “because there was no room for them in the inn.” Bethlehem had no room for Jesus. I’m sad to say that many people’s lives today are just like the town of Bethlehem; they are too full to allow any room for Jesus Christ. No time, no talents, and no treasure to give our Lord; they simply have no room for Him in their life. How tragic it is when God’s people fall into the same trap! Activity is no substitute for spirituality. Decide to make room for Jesus Christ in your life this holiday season. May God help each of us to lay everything else aside if need be and make room for Him.
