“And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.” – Genesis 24.27
How often as God’s people do we search for the hand of our God seeking the right decisions to make in our Christian life? We often ask the question about many of life’s situations, “How can I know God’s will?” In our passage the servant of Abraham is sent by his master to find a wife for Abraham’s son, Isaac; who, upon meeting Rebekah is overcome with joy because God had led him to His perfect will for Isaac. In his joy he proclaims one of the great open secrets to finding God’s will; “I being in the way, the LORD led me.” What that means is, Abraham’s servant was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing and God led him to the place that he needed to be. Too often we expect lightning bolts from Heaven to strike our heads with divine knowledge. What we need to do instead is be faithful to do the things that God has told each one of us to do and then allow Him to bring into our life His perfect will. Get in the way and let God lead you!
