Faithless Children

“And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.” – Deuteronomy 32.19-20

Deuteronomy 32 records a brief history of the people of Israel by their human leader, Moses. About midway through this recounting of their history we find our text in verse 20 where the Bible says the Israelites were “children in whom is no faith.” What an extremely sad testimony considering all that this generation had seen! The plagues of Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea, food and water in the midst of wilderness, these are just a few of the powerful provisions God made on behalf of His people. Yet the Bible says that these people were “children in whom is no faith.” As God’s people today we have the opportunity and responsibility to trust our Almighty Savior no matter the opponent or obstacle. May it never be said of us that we are a people “in whom is no faith.” God help each of us to live the words of this great hymn: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way – To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.”
