Christ is Our Life

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” – Colossians 3.2-4

As a society today people cram their life full of things that constantly demand attention like work, family, friends, and fun. The sad reality is that many of God’s people do the very same thing. This immersion is not necessarily bad, except that it leaves little to no room for Jesus Christ. We can be so involved with work, for instance, that it causes us to miss or neglect opportunities to serve the Lord with God’s people either in worship or in ministry. The problem is, as Christians too often we see Christ as a part of our life instead of our whole life. In our text Paul says that Christ “is our life;” but do we live that way, or do we leave Him the leftovers? The truth is if you put everything in your life and then try to fit Christ – He won’t fit. But if you give the Lord His rightful, pre-eminent place then you will find that your life will be what it ought to be for your family, friends and co-workers. Without Jesus Christ we are all dead in sin. The only life that we do have is because of His sacrifice on Calvary. May God help each of us to see that Christ is not just a part of our life, as a Christian; He “is our life.”
